The 1550 Supper Club
Last night, Arabica Lounge launched its 1550 Supper Club. Jojo Corväiá and Jacob Wesley Sutton (the baker at Sugarbakery) collaborated together for an "Italian evening extravaganza". The event was positively magical from the moment I walked in door. Upon my arrival (a bit delayed because parking on Capitol Hill is not the easiest to find), Jojo ushered me to my seat amongst the group, who were already merrily munching on a lovely spread of cheese and pickled veggies. Conversation flowed easily amongst the diverse group which included everyone from a pre-school teacher to a fellow Arkansan. Each course produced from the kitchen was greeted with Ooohs and Ahhhs.
Jojo is someone who truly makes everyone feel at home, and the supper club was a glimpse of community at it's finest. It was a privilege to attend this event and I look forward to many more in the future. 1550 Supper Club was packed with people who were intent on soaking in each moment. Seriously?! When was the last time that attended a Sunday evening dinner where you made new friends and had spontaneous dance party? That is what I call a perfect summer memory.
If you have not “Liked” their Facebook page I highly recommend it, as these dinners are open to the public and a total steal at only $35 per guest for dinner (not including tax, drinks, & gratuity).
Our menu last night was absolutely incredible:
Pickled vegetables
Baked lemons with anchovies and mozzarella
Endive wrapped in bacon
Baked ricotta with pink pepper corn
Rotolo of spinach and squash
Pork roast with marsala wine and risotto bianco
Baked pears and meringues. (As it was served one guest said "This is better than an elephant ear").
