I think my budget can handle these "newspaper themed" napkin rings :) Don't you love this idea for repurposing your paper towel rolls (or toilet paper rolls for the more daring)?

This may or may not be the launch of a new color series..
I know we are in the midst of summer summer, at least we keep telling ourselves this in Seattle, but I have a mild obsession with moss. Whenever I catch sight of moss, I feel immediately as though I am in the midst of a magical story. Perhaps this is because we always seemed to be searching for moss on our spontaneous family roadtrips (see: previous post). I'm curious does moss evoke this kind of reaction from anyone else?

I just stumbled upon "Writers I Have Loved" by way of Print Magazine. Gosh! Now I wish that my moleskine looked like this... if only I could sketch...if only I had thought of this idea...
What writers would be on your "snark page"?

"To live content with small means; to seek elegance rather than luxury, and refinement rather than fashion, to be worthy, not respectable, and wealthy, not rich; to study hard, think quietly, talk gently, act frankly, to listen to stars and birds, to babes and sages, with open heart, to bear all cheerfully, do all bravely, await occasions, hurry never. In a word, to let the spiritual unbidden and unconscious grow up through the common. This is to be my symphony." - William Henry Channing (1810-1884)

Love is the beauty of the soul. - Saint Augustine
The soul that sees beauty may sometimes walk alone. - Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
Everybody needs beauty as well as bread, places to play in and pray in, where nature may heal and give strength to body and soul. - John Muir
Beauty. I stumbled upon these photos today and thought they were absolutely beautiful! I love every detail of this shoot, definitely not "typical" wedding snaps. Congrats! OnceWed and Jose Villa for capturing such incredible beauty. You have inspired me!

I remember the first time I heard about William Wilberforce, about 10 years ago, in a class that P. Dennis Trout was teaching. I was baffled by how I had never heard the story of the life of this incredible man before. I kept asking myself why don't more people know about Wilberforce...
Things great have small beginnings. Every downpour is just a raindrop; every fire is just a spark; every harvest is just a seed; every journey is just a step because without that step there will be no journey; without that raindrop there can be no shower; without that seed there can be no harvest. - William Wilberforce
“If to be feelingly alive to the sufferings of my fellow-creatures is to be a fanatic, I am one of the most incurable fanatics ever permitted to be at large.” ― William Wilberforce
As I listened to the heroic tale, I determined then and there that I would endeavor to keep William Wilberforce's legacy alive, through my own life. I read everything that I could get my hands on about and by Wilberforce. I was wrecked by his 40 year relentless fight against slavery. I held his heroic story in my heart, waiting for my opportunity to act. Then in 2008, I heard from a friend about Invisible Children and child soldiers... I knew I had to make a stand. The words of P. Dennis Trout and the story of Wilberforce ultimately were a seed that inspired me to volunteer with Invisible Children, Seattle Against Slavery, and several other organizations with the goal of raising awareness and eradicating modern day slavery.
Today, when I heard that P. Dennis Trout had passed away, I was reminded that I have been entrusted with a great responsibility. In the words of Wilberforce "You may choose to look the other way but you can never say again that you did not know." In this post I just want to honor P. Dennis Trout for encouraging so many including myself, to live fully alive and to not give up the fight.
"Thank you for inspiring me to stand against injustice. The seeds you have sown into my life and the lives of so many will continue to grow. Your legacy is greater than you could have ever imagined. I will keep fighting."

"If you wait," he realized, "people will forget your camera and the soul will drift up into view."
I adore this series on reading by renowned photographer, Steve McCurry. In so many of the photos from this series, I love how he has captured the fact that the reader appears to be in a world entirely of their own. There are more photos from this series on his blog and also some lovely quotes about reading, here are just a few of my favorites:
To learn to read is to light a fire; every syllable that is spelled out is a spark.
- Victor Hugo
At one magical instant in your early childhood, the page of a book–that string of confused, alien ciphers–shivered into meaning. Words spoke to you, gave up their secrets; at that moment, whole universes opened. You became, irrevocably, a reader. - Alberto Manguel
The reading of all good books is like a conversation with the finest minds of past centuries. - Rene Descartes
That’s what I love about reading: one tiny thing will interest you in a book,
and that tiny thing will lead you to another book, and another bit there will
lead you onto a third book. It’s geometrically progressive
- all with no end in sight, and for no other reason than sheer enjoyment.

Ps- Was anyone able to guess who the lady is in the last photo? She is a rather incredible woman :)
