"The world is fascinating. People and cultures inspire us. Sadly, the fast paced lifestyles of our generation result in many not taking the necessary step back to soak in the existing world around us. Our goal with this film is to help viewers further appreciate and take notice of the beauty in life & culture that lies within our world... ...so the next time you notice something that strikes you as interesting, stop for a second, start powering on your camera, think about why it's unique, and snap the shot before you miss it. Life is extraordinary. Embrace it." - Variable

Moonrise Kingdom directed by Wes Anderson. May 25th. Can't wait!
Many of you may know how much I love artist communities.. I have countless books on the Inklings (C.S. Lewis, Tolkien, Owen Barfield, Charles Williams, etc) and the artists who all banded together in Paris in the 20's (Hemingway, Fitzgerald, Stein, Picasso, etc). There is just something magical about a community of artists and I think we need more of them, don't you?
For a while I have been following Communion which is a community of musicians founded by one of the members of Mumford and Sons. I love what they are doing and I must say that their weekly newsletters are a serious treasure. If you have not signed up that you are missing out more than a little :)
Here is a little more about who they are and what they are trying to do:
"Communion was born in the Summer of 2006 at London’s Notting Hill Arts Club. Founded by Ben Lovett (Mumford and Sons), former Cherbourg bassist Kevin Jones, and acclaimed producer Ian Grimble, it quickly grew into a flourishing community of musicians and fans alike, providing a first independent platform for the freshest young artists on London’s circuit and beyond.
Taking the blueprint of what has made Communion work so well, Communion Records was founded in September 2009 priding itself on creating a close working family in which to allow artists to develop at their own pace.
Looking for fresh ways to compile music that involves everyone, Communion took over the infamous Flowerpot venue in London’s Kentish Town in July 2010 to create a week-long series of collaborative recordings. Beyond the regular pool of young Communion friendly artists, established acts such as Angus and Julia Stone, Sarah Blasko, Mt. Desolation, Lissie, Damien Rice, and Kill It Kid alongside scores of other artists all wrote and performed together.
Continuing to evolve out of the sometimes faceless vacuum of the music industry for honest, independent champions of good music, Communion endeavours to fill that gap and push the boundaries of music.." - Communion
Music is My First Language recently posted about Communion and their upcoming Austin to Boston tour if you would like to read a little more about what they are up to.
Thankful to know I am not the only one trying to figure out how to pull off Spring and Winter in the same outfit. Jessica Alba = all weather fashionista.
What are some of your fashion tricks for dealing with weather that refuses to cooperate? I feel like in Seattle we should be pro's but I must admit there are some days where I just stare blankly into my closet for what seems like forever.
Pink nailpolish, ribbons, books, and sparkly dresses...
Notecards, web design, invitation design, photography, and so much more...
I know.. I always seem to be posting about the East Coast and sometimes it may appear as though all of the creatives are holed up in Brooklyn.. but guess what? I just discovered two sisters living in Portland who are incredibly inspiring and well I just completely fell for their new video introducing: The Weaver House. I can't wait to get my hands on one of their "Like No Other" notebooks.
Jamestown Revival. I kept trying to not chuckle while watching this video.. if you don't know what I mean just watch it to the point when they are in the boat... Pretty excited that I will be seeing these guys very soon at SLRS.
